CALL FOR A UNCERTAIN RESOLUTE TERM CONTRACT

A call for applications for a technical research uncertain resolute term contract is now open

1-Position: Technical Researcher within the project Impactor- “Impacts of human activities in the Azores cold-water corals physiological resilience” (ACORES-01-0145-FEDER-000122; from now on designated as ‘Project’), funded by the program Açores 2020 and managed by IMAR-Instituto do MAR, at the Departamento de Oceanografia e Pescas da Universidade dos Açores. This call is available in both Portuguese and English.

2-Technical and scientific discipline: Biochemistry

3-Admission requirements: Candidates must hold: 1) Master’s degree in biology/biochemistry or a related area 2) previous experience in biological samples collection and analysis, namely i) samples preparation for proteins analysis; ii) samples preparation for mRNA analysis; iii) gene expression; iv) high skills and independence in laboratory environment 3) fluent in Portuguese and/or English; 4) availability to start immediately.

In the event the master degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution,that degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August until the signature of the contract.

4-Responsibilities: The candidate will have the following specific responsibilities:

-Assist in the sampling, experimental execution and routine laboratory work, planned for the Project;

-Collect and prepare coral tissues and skeleton samples for proteomics and transcriptomics analysis;

-Analysis of proteins and RNA quantification;

-Write project reports;

-Contribute in the preparation of scientific publications and oral talks

5-Applicable legislation: Code of the Portuguese labour, approved by the Law nº7/2009 of 12th of February with all the modifications introduced thereafter. Contract to be signed for the execution of an occasional task, following the terms defined in section g), nº2, of article 140º of the Labour Code.

6-Working location: The work will be developed at IMAR- Instituto do MAR, based at the Department of Oceanography and Fisheries, University of the Azores in Horta (Faial Island) under the scientific supervision of Inês Martins, PhD.

7- Contract duration:

 i)        This contract is to address a temporary need of IMAR, during the period strictly necessary for this purpose, on an exclusive basis as mandated by IMAR-Instituto do Mar contract regulations and Portuguese legislation, in particular the Portuguese Labour Code.

ii)        The contract will remain active from the date of signature until the end of the project´s funding, or completion of the work. The contract expires when predicting the occurrence of the term, IMAR communicates this information to the Researcher, with at least seven, 30 or 60 days as the contract has lasted up to six months, six months to two years or longer period. cannot  be renewable under any circunstance , beyond the period necessary of the project nor being able to excced the legal limit of duration

8- Compensation: The technician will be paid according to the Portuguese regulations on public service under the category of “Técnico Superior” index 19, corresponding to gross value (before taxes) of 1411.77€, including all other benefits described in the Portuguese legislation.

9- Selection criteria: The selection of candidates will be based on curriculum evaluation, taking into account the demonstration of the capabilities listed in the admission requirements. Interviews may be conducted to better assess the capability of candidates

10-Application submission: The call will be open from July 28 to August 10, 2021. Application should be submitted by email to candidaturas@imar.org.pt) with the subject “Concurso – Impactor – 2021”, including a motivation letter with justification of skills for the position; detailed Curriculum Vitae, all relevant official documents (academic degree, professional degree, etc.). Applications may be submitted in either Portuguese or English. Failure to submit the requested documents will be reason for exclusion of the application.

11- Evaluation committee: Inês Martins, PhD (President), Daphne Cuvelier, PhD and Cláudia Oliveira, PhD. The composition of the evaluation committee may be changed in case of eventual conflict of interests with competing candidates.

12- Notification of results: The final results will be presented in a list ranked by the candidates’ final scores, to be sent by e-mail to all applicants. The successful candidate will be notified via email. If the decision is unfavourable, the candidates have 10 working days to appeal. The jury may not select any of the applicants based on insufficient quality of the applications or inadequate candidate profile.
