Régis Santos holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is an Assistant Professor in Fisheries at the University of the Azores. He leads the Fisheries and Stock Assessment Research Group at OKEANOS, where his research integrates marine ecology and fisheries science, with a focus on population dynamics, stock assessment and sustainable fisheries management. He is actively involved in scientific advisory work within the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), contributing to several expert groups, including WGEF, WGDEEP and WGHANSA. His work bridges science, policy and stakeholders, promoting participatory approaches to fisheries management. He currently supervises nine PhD students and has an extensive scientific output, with over 160 scientific papers, technical reports and advisory documents, and more than 90 conference communications.
