I am a marine biologist with a PhD in Marine Sciences obtained at the University of the Azores. I have worked on different research topics related to fisheries, movement ecology and marine conservation working on different species, from coastal fish to oceanic megafauna, such as pelagic sharks and sea turtles. I am currently an Assistant Researcher at the University of the Azores and I am focusing my research on the ecology of oceanic megafauna, sea turtle conservation and oceanic fisheries. As coordinator of the COSTA project (COnsolidating Sea Turtle conservation in the Azores - costaproject.org), A am the scientific coordinator of a fishery observer program for the Portuguese pelagic longline fishery (2015 – present). Currently, I am a member of OSPAR's Sea Turtle Expert Group (ICG-POSH), IUCN's Marine Turtle Specialist Group, and the European Commission's MSFD Biodiversity Expert Network.
